Meet George Vargas
Dr. Vargas was born in Santiago, Dominican Republic, where he earned his MD degree from The Pontificia Universidad Catolica Madrey Maestra. He completed an Internal Medicine and Endocrinology and Nutrition fellowship in Mexico, becoming Chief Resident during his last year. Upon moving to the United States, he completed his Internal Medicine Residency in Raritan Bay Medical Center in New Jersey, there he earned the honor to serve as a Chief Resident again.
He completed his Diabetes, Endocrinology and Metabolism fellowship at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio. Dr. Vargas has been recognized seven times since 2004 as an “American Top Physician” by the Consumer’s Research Council of America and in 2006 was awarded The Diabetes Physician Recognition Award (DPRP) by the National Council of Quality Assurance (NCQA) for high quality care of diabetic patients. In 2012, he was again recognized as an “America’s Top Doctor” this time by Castle Connolly Medical Ltd.
He is a fellow of the American College of Physicians (ACP) and the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists (AACE), and is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Diabetes, Endocrinology and Metabolism. Dr. Vargas is an active member of the American College of Physicians (ACP), American Medical Association (AMA), American Diabetes Association (ADA), The Endocrine Society and The American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists (AACE).
Dr. George Vargas gives lectures and does television appearances discussing topics of interest in the Endocrine field in both English and Spanish. After working as an attending physician and conducting clinical research for several major pharmaceutical companies in private practice in the Hollywood area , he and Dr Vitra Gosine decided to open Diabetes Thyroid & Endocrine Associates in the Pembroke Pines area to be able to provide up to date high quality endocrine services to his patients.
